Summer Arts Preview: Theater
Camelot Comes Straight from the Kennedy Center
It’s surprising that it took until May 2014 for the musical Camelot to get to the Kennedy Center. A concert version of the 1960 Lerner and Loewe hit was the centerpiece of this spring’s Kennedy Center Gala, and, as with last year’s My Fair Lady, which was also directed by the talented and Tony-winning Marcia Milgrom Dodge, it’s getting something of a West Coast encore run, courtesy of the Granada’s Performing Arts Center program. With Barry Bostwick as Merlyn and Robert Sean Leonard as King Arthur, this cast is even more star-studded than the one that wowed the politicos and lobbyists who turned out in force for the Beltway production. Milgrom Dodge has a light touch that energizes performers, and she knows how to cut these Broadway classics so that they fly along at a concert-comfortable clip. At the Granada, Saturday-Sunday, June 21-22. Call 899-2222 or visit granadasb.org.
