Oil Is Here to Stay

If passed, Measure P is going to halt all oil production in Santa Barbara County. No matter what is said, this is the original goal of the measure. The oil industry has been in Santa Barbara County prior to the beginning of the 20th century. Today it is one of the most highly regulated industries in the U.S.A.

If we lose this industry, our need for the products made from oil is not going to go away. Crude oil will just have to be brought in from somewhere else, causing even more pollution by the transportation of crude oil. (Sixteen ships create as much pollution as all the cars in the world.) In essence we will move the pollution and actually make it worse. Many of the countries with oil production have little or no pollution regulation. Even worse is the fact that many of the cultures from these countries actually hate the U.S.A. and everything it stands for, so why send our money there? Help keep our money inside the U.S.A.
