Smoking Oil

Around 1980, we campaigned for smoking restrictions in public places. The tobacco industry swamped our efforts with millions of dollars. They argued that smoking restrictions would destroy the restaurant and hotel industry and bankrupt local governments for lack of tax revenue. They even convinced police chiefs, mayors, and fire chiefs to oppose smoking restrictions.

Sound familiar? Today the oil industry mimics the tobacco industry arguing (with big bucks) that restricting dangerous oil drilling methods will bankrupt Santa Barbara County if Measure P passes. In fact the oil industry will continue to grow if Measure P passes with hundreds of future high intensity wells already approved to be built in our county. Nobody is losing their job. The Big Lie works to scare citizens from acting in their own best interest to protect our drinking water aquifers, air, and property values.

Please see through the Big Oil smoke screen and vote Yes on Measure P to save our drinking water aquifers from thousands of future high pressure, high temperature, and high acidity oil wells that will leak!
