Kevin Ruiz

A fight in front of a fraternity house on the 6700 block of Sueno Road turned bloody early Saturday morning, leaving one male UCSB student with stab wounds to his chest and head. UCSB police officers detained four subjects — covered in blood and fleeing the scene — after the officers witnessed the fight in progress at about 2:45 a.m., according to Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover. Sheriff’s deputies also responded to the scene and located the 21-year-old stabbing victim at the fraternity. He was transported to Cottage Hospital and remains in stable condition.

Following an investigation, deputies arrested one of the four detained subjects after determining he “was a suspect in the stabbing.” Eighteen-year-old Kevin Ruiz of Reseda was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into County Jail. His bail was set at $30,000.

According to Lieutenant Craig Bonner, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing more information at this time.
