Is My Son Next?

I am so pleased you picked up on the firing of the developmentally disabled in Santa Barbara. Haggen needs to be run thru the courts from local to the top and fire the execs who let the long-term courtesy clerks go.

I ask, is my son next? He lived at Devereux for 16 years. Ten years ago he watched as the Vons at Fairview was remodeled and waited to be hired as a courtesy clerk. When he had to move to Los Angeles, he got another job immediately with Vons. Just this June he received his 10-year certificate of appreciation.

His employer, Vons, was changed in March to Haggen. He is currently on vacation, but I now wonder if and worry that he will receive a similar notice when he returns. The union he belongs to sent a letter stating that if you are fired, call them right away.

Santa Barbara and all the people who assist and work for the developmentally disabled (many at the Tri-Counties Regional Center) and others could band together, and walk, and keep customers from Haggen’s.

Imagine, this is the week of the Special Olympics, which is all about empowering the disabled. I am just disgusted with Haggen.

Please, Santa Barbara, do all you can to help our disabled family members who are workers. Thank you.
