The Goleta Unified School District last week completed its internal investigation as to why four-year-old Emilio Garcia — a special-needs student at Kellogg Elementary — was left alone for several hours in a school bus in the district’s transportation yard, but district officials haven’t released details on the fate of the bus driver. “We are not at liberty to share the specific outcome of the investigation as it involved a confidential personnel matter,” Superintendent Bill Banning said in a statement. Reports of the July incident explain that Garcia boarded the bus in the morning but failed to disembark at Kellogg and was unnoticed by the driver at route’s end. Garcia was later discovered on the bus, unharmed. “As a result of this matter, the district has taken appropriate personnel actions and has reviewed its procedures and protocols for checking students onto and off of the bus,” Banning said. “At the start of the school year, all faculty and staff will receive training on these protocols.”
