The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning Thursday afternoon until 4:30 p.m. for north central Santa Barbara County. According to the alert, Big Pine Mountain, Highway 166 from Twitchell Dam to the Cuyama Valley, and Figueroa Mountain are among the areas at risk for moderate flash flooding.

The National Weather Service reported at least half an inch of rain had fallen within 10 minutes in north central county, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to occur until late Thursday afternoon. Residents are advised to avoid flooded areas and that they are most at risk while driving.

A flash flood warning was also issued for neighboring south central San Luis Obispo County.
