On Tuesday, November 15, the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra held a lively reception in the second floor Loggia of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse and then a wonderful Strings Tango concert in the Courthouse Mural Room. Both were collaborations with the Courthouse Legacy Foundation.

The reception, open to all ticket holders for this special, intimate performance, offered a chance to mingle over wine and dessert in the lovely historic setting of the Loggia.

The concert featured Joel Pargman, violin, Carrie Kennedy, violin, Colleen Sugata, viola, Paul Fehrenbach, cello, and guest Brian Head, guitar. Pieces were from Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Villa-Lobos, Piazzolla, and Boccherini. The stunning Mural Room, with its recently-restored 4,200 square feet of murals, provided a delightful setting for this special performance.

This was the second of eight performances in the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra’s 2016-17 season. The next performance is a Baroque Holiday on December 13 at another historic locale, All Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. The Greats (Beethoven and Shubert) will take place at the Lobero Theatre on January 24, Romance at the Museum (Schumann, Mendelssohn) at the Museum of Natural History on Valentine’s Day (February 14), a Woodwind Affair (various composers) at the Lobero on March 21, Music Dialogue! (Mendelssohn) at the University Club on April 4, and Schumann Squared at the Lobero on May 16.

For performances at the Lobero Theatre, the orchestra offers its Supper Club Experience to all ticket holders. Held in the Lobero Theatre Courtyard before the performance, the Supper Club features a hot supper from Via Maestra 42 served buffet style.
