Naomi Zaldate is a Don of a different color. It’s been four years, but our intern flew under the blue, white, and gray of El Rancho High School Dons — though her favorite color is green — before trading them in for UCSB’s gold and blue and a major in English with a minor in professional writing. She’s become proficient at pitching stories while writing for HerCampus.com, so much so that she charmed the Indy editors instantly when she sent over her piece on hiking by bus. In between classes and writing assignments, Naomi is a lead teacher for language arts at Isla Vista Elementary’s after-school program, probably passing on her pitch technique to the 6th graders.
