The front yard renovation of Tina and Rudy Scott’s Vallecito Place home was recently recognized as Carpinteria Beautiful’s “Lookin’ Good” award-winner for the month of October. Designed and built by EcoLawn Santa Barbara, the project started with the Scott’s desire for a tropical, Hawaiian feel yard with easy upkeep.

EcoLawn’s Senior Business Developer Jerry Galanti was the designer and manager of the project, selecting the plants and planning the placement. He shares: “Tina and Rudy told me that they love Hawaii. They wanted a tropical feel, with the color pop and texture appeal of the islands. They already had ginger, plumeria, and hibiscus, so those existing plants were good creative drivers for a new complimentary planting plan.”

In addition to new plantings, a new driveway and walkway layout were designed and implemented; new landscape lighting, and new stone detail were added to the yard. The existing sod lawn was replaced with a large synthetic turf to avoid weeds and dry spots, which had been problematic in the previous landscape. The new plan is designed to be more eco-friendly and less labor-intensive.

When asked about the experience, Tina Scott commented, “Jerry and his team work like a well-oiled machine. We love them and the end result.”

Carpinteria Beautiful is an all-volunteer organization with a stated mission to keep Carpinteria “clean, green, and beautiful.” The Scotts shared that their goal with the redesign was to create a good first impression for anyone driving into their neighborhood. The October “Lookin’ Good” award shows that Carpinteria Beautiful feels that they achieved their goal.
