Vandals Graffiti Mission

Vandals, presumably operating under the cover of darkness, painted the phrase “Christ dug the ditches at Auschwitz” on the wall outside the main vestibule of the Old Mission Santa Barbara this past holiday weekend. Discovered around 6 a.m. on Easter Sunday by a passerby, the graffiti was covered up with some tables before the morning’s first Mass and cleaned from the wall by Monday afternoon. According to Santa Barbara Police Department spokesperson Lt. Paul McCaffrey, the matter is currently under investigation.
