Donald Bedford, a Carpinteria man who planted a hidden video camera in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book in the bedroom of his girlfriend’s daughter, was sentenced to 90 days of jail time after Judge George Eskin said on 6/24 said he would accept a felony plea with a misdemeanor sentence, which, by operation of law, makes the charge a misdemeanor. The guilty plea of recording a confidential communication was taken at the objection of prosecutor Ali Neuffer, who argued that the invasiveness of the act should make the charge a felony.
