You folks really get a jump on the day.

I thought Travis J. Armstrong’s
self-congratulatory editorial
of August 27, 2006 deserves some
comment, but let’s turn it over to you, the “even more [than 75
percent] that said they still could enjoy reading the paper even if
they disagreed with strong editorials.”

With that in mind, I’ve moved some initial comments from the
previous thread which seem better suited to a separate entry.

Travesty’s “opinion” piece today is worth a few
laughs…..spinning how he’s “banishing the bias”…in the same
breath, his bias spews at Marty and Susan again….does he really
believe his own BS????

let’s see, on nipper’s front page we covered the pesto/basil
crisis! (not really a crisis, whew); cuban cigars available
locally! (if Castro dies and after U.S. imbargo lifted); so, the
table is set for a hard hitting page one expose on the impact of
global warming on flat compared against fizzie bottled waters.

Let’s get this straight: Armstrong has been blocking
letters-to-the-editor critical of McCaw’s newspaper because he
couldn’t stand up to pressure from “some journalists in the
newsroom”? Anyone in particular? What’s his excuse for the letters
he’s blocked trying to give counterpoint to the newspaper’s
editorials? Pressure from the woman signing his paycheck?

If Travis can be believed, he will now publish letters about how
utterly dumb the basil and cigar stories were?? Someone send some
in and let’s see. Does this apply to his own page? Will he print a
letter about how boring Buddy Winston’s column was today?

I personally can attest to the fact that multiple letters have
been sent to Travis especially over the past month, objecting to
topics ranging from Laura S. as a columnist to the treatment of
journalists, from me and many other people. He has published none
of them. He has a fan club of one; well maybe four if you count
Gary Earl, Joe GUzzardi, and Travis’ new best friend Michael
Self.

I wrote the following e-mail to McCaw, Armstrong, etc, in
response to T.A.’s Aug 27th “ediorial”. I would encourage everyone
who is writing in disgust to post their letter here as well – this
will make the backlash public record (until then, we can’t be sure
there is a backlash, right?)

Subject: So Jerry Roberts and Co. got an award in July as well
as last night? Just when you think Armstrong has written the most
ridiculous clap-trap possible, he digs deep into his troubled soul
to pull out yet an even more astounding brand of foolishness.

Armstrong spent his August 27 column celebrating the
accomplishments of journalists who McCaw, with his help, forced out
of the paper. To take a page from Armstrong’s own sophomoric book
of opinion writing, hmmmmmm. Armstrong is correct on one point: the
paper used to be good. Armstrong will surely not receive similar
honors or enjoy the public support held by the departed talent.

Now go do the right thing,

Yeah, Unpublished by the T-Man, but have you, like, addressed
the BIG TOPICS at the NP, such as the European basil disaster?
Forget about focusing on the treatment of people.

Get ready for lots of dead trees dedicated to out-of-touch front
page Sunday topics like Cuban cigars; remember, the “Associate (to
Wendy) Editor” is the first newsroom honcho to not even live
here.

Travis’s mind is an amazing thing. He should call Dr. Laura’s
radio show and ask for some advice. She’d yell at him and tell him
to go take on the day. Everyone, if you haven’t already, and I know
it’s old hat, but still, google “Dr. Laura Nude” and have a good
laugh. That girl is dirty! Daaammnnn!
