Top Three Reasons to meet Colin finlay

artsl.jpgThe world’s underbelly is the heart of
photojournalist Colin Finlay’s work. A 42-year-old UCSB graduate
who comes to the DoubleTree on September 15, 7 p.m., for a free
lecture as part of an Adobe-sponsored national tour, Finlay has
spent the past 17 years globetrotting to such downtrodden spots as
Rwanda, Haiti, Romania, Sudan, and Bangladesh to cover famine,
disease, war, child labor, and other atrocities. His new, aptly
titled book Testify is a stark collection of haunting
black-and-whites culled from these years. The S.B. Museum of Art’s
photo curator Karen Sinsheimer sums it up in the book’s
introduction, where she writes: “The people portrayed in this book
are neither pretty nor famous, and the stories do not have a happy
ending, but they are important to our humanity, to our sense of
moral outrage and our responsibility to the future.” Here are three
to dwell on. Untitled-2.jpgIreland.jpg
