UCSB Women’s Center Honors Pro Mountain Biker

The UCSB Women’s Center is proud to host
professional mountain bike champion Marla Streb for its 9th Annual
Distinguished Woman in Sports Lecture for free on Monday, February
5 at 7 p.m. in the Corwin Pavillion. Streb won the national title
in both the Downhill and Super Downhill events in 2004 and the
Single Speed World Champion title in 2005. She clocks in at a top
speed of 67 mph, which she hit at a midnight race on the
ice-covered Olympic bobsled track in Cortina, Italy during a Red
Bull “Tube” competition. To date, at 41 years old, Streb has
endured five broken collarbones, six concussions, two blown
ligaments, 200 stitches, broken ankles, fingers and thumbs, but
continues to smoke the trails and her younger competition.

One of the top performing female athletes in the world, Streb
rides professionally for Team Luna Chick. Not only an intense
athlete, Streb strives to give back to the world. She is currently
at work in Costa Rica where she has been for the past few years
developing mountain bike park called “Singletrack Jungle.”
Singletrack Jungle will be considered a low-pact, sustainable
alternative eco-amenity at the Estancia Del Mar resort.
