Accident Causes Fuel Spill Near Gaviota Tunnel

Traffic came to a snarling stop on a stretch of Highway 101 on 5/21, when a southbound big rig lost control just north of the Gaviota tunnel. Spilling diesel fuel and wreckage across the road, the truck’s driver walked away unscathed. While the investigation is still ongoing, authorities believe excessive speed may have been a factor as the driver lost control of his truck while navigating the always dangerous downhill S curves just inland of the tunnel.
