Twenty years of water conservation have restored the Goleta Water District’s underground water table back to normal levels, but debate over how much to pump from it has resumed. At a workshop on 8/30, anti-growth activists accused district staff of having allocated water for new development annually, in alleged violation of a 1980s water conservation ordinance. Staff disputed the objectors’ interpretation and said that demand for water had been so low as to make the point moot.
