Of late it seems Santa Barbara restaurants are as interested in how to seat you as how to sate you. Joe’s Cafe (536 State St.), as part of its retro-styled renovation, has added plush new black leather booths. Jeannine’s (3607 State St.) in San Roque now has those thick-thatched strawish chairs that elevate the place into a bit of a more French bistro look. The Wine Cask’s (813 Anacapa St.) new owner Bernard Rosenson opted to put his stamp on the look of the restaurant with contemporary furniture that should spark an interesting contrast in the usually prim-and-proper Gold Room. And the folks at Quantum Restaurant & Lounge (201 W. Carrillo St.) moved its furniture around. First, they got rid of the banquette in the bar that was so low and cushy even very tall people barely saw over the tables. Second, they moved the tall tables from the dining room into the bar. Third, the dining room now has regular-sized tables and hardback chairs-plus one comfy sofa-surrounded table-waiting for customers to chow down.
