The end of summer pollution report card for California beaches was released by Heal the Bay last week and-according to the Santa Monica-based environmental non-profit, the shores of Santa Barbara County are cleaner than last year. Due in no small part to the record-setting lack of rain in the past calendar year, 85 percent of the 20 beaches surveyed in Santa Barbara had a Grade of B or better-up from 70 percent last year. On the dirty side of things, Leadbetter Beach got a D while Hendry’s Beach was barely passing at C.
