Hazmat Crew Called to Clean Up Cleaning Chemicals

The block of Figueroa Street just west of State Street was closed to vehicular traffic for the morning of 10/29 after janitors cleaning the Longs Drugs at 1109 State St. allegedly poured chemicals into the store’s back parking lot. City Fire Department hazardous materials crews soaked up the cleaning solution to prevent it from flowing into storm drains. Deputy Fire Chief Mitch Vaughn said Longs agreed to pay for the cleanup.
