The misdemeanor trial is underway in the People’s case against former UCSB students Aseye Allah and Meron Meshesha, who are each charged with one count of obstructing peace officers in the performance of their duty during an incident outside the now-defunct Cooney’s Bar-now EOS-in 2006, when police say a large crowd gathered and got out of control. The two women have sued the Police Department, alleging civil rights violations and unlawful arrest by several officers.
