State Discusses Governor’s Budget Cuts

Discussion of California’s $14.5 billion budget deficit brought Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to Santa Barbara on 1/17. He told local government leaders that had the State Legislature adopted a budget reform he’s pushed in years past, its reserve fund could help solve the current fiscal emergency. Assemblymember Pedro Nava and county Supervisor Janet Wolf spoke out against Schwarzenegger’s 10-percent across-the-board cuts, which will affect county services. The Legislature must take budgetary action by 2/25.
