For its successful community outreach program UCSB Reads for Earth Day-a 2007 campaign to read and discuss the book Field Notes from a Catastrophe and other global environmental issues-the UC Santa Barbara library received the $5,000 John Cotton Dana Award from the American Library Association (ALA). The esteemed award honored five libraries, though UCSB stood as the only university recipient.
