The Larry Hillblom Foundation donated two million dollars last week to UCSB’s Neuroscience Research Institute (NRI) to study Alzheimer’s disease. The four-year $1,970,291 grant will create the Larry Hillblom Center for Neurodegeneration Research and focus exclusively on the neurofibrillary tangles that are characteristic of Alzheimer’s. Kenneth Kosik, co-director of NRI, who has spent the greater part of his career studying these tangles, will head the new center.
