Carpinteria Rape Suspect Caught
Composite Sketch Leads to Arrest of 19-Year-Old Man Who Allegedly Attempted to Rape Two Women
A composite sketch based on a victim description led to the arrest of a man who authorities allege attacked two women and tried to rape them in a span of nine days in Carpinteria.
Jorge Nunez Garcia, 19, was arrested by Deputy Ken Rushing on December 29, walking not far from where the two attacks allegedly took place. Rushing matched the composite sketch with the suspect, and after questioning by detectives, Garcia was arrested and booked in County Jail for assault with intent to commit rape. Bail was set at $25,000.
Authorities allege that on December 19, a male suspect knocked a woman to the ground and assaulted her on Ogan Road, west of Casitas Pass Road, but the victim was able to get away without being sexually assaulted. Nine days later, a second female was attacked while walking on Ogan Road near Pacific Village Road. She too was able to fight off her attacker before any sexual assault took place.
A composite sketch by forensics personnel was given to all patrol deputies, leading to Rushing spotting Garcia, who apparently lives in the area near the assaults.
