A temporary restraining order against Orson Mozes will prevent him from spending the nearly $300,000 in funds seized as a result of the investigation into his alleged adoption scam, which bilked prospective parents out of more than $1 million. Mozes, who is being represented by a public defender, was captured in late 2008 after allegedly fleeing his Montecito-based adoption agency, Adoption International Program. Mozes will next be in court on 6/15.

Denise D’Sant Angelo’s preliminary hearing was continued this week after she fired her public defender and requested time to find a private attorney to represent her against a grand theft charge. D’Sant Angelo is charged with taking roughly $2,800 from the Sisters of Bethany order of nuns, but she says the sisters were duping people and were dishonest about being evicted from their Santa Barbara residence. D’Sant Angelo returns to court on 4/22.
