Santa Ynez summers often mean some scorching temps, but this weekend things in the valley are going to get even hotter. Starting this Saturday, July 25, at 6 p.m., folks at Los Olivos’ Wildling Art Museum will host their second monthly after-hours art party, complete with live music, themed galleries, and fire spinning-that’s right, fire spinning. Picking up right where June’s event left off, this weekend’s installment of the Wildling After Dark series takes a deeper look into the museum’s ongoing underwater photography exhibit, Wildlings from the Deep. Where last month’s event scratched the proverbial ocean surface with an “undersea grotto” and “message in a bottle” mixer, July’s soiree promises a gallery made up to resemble a real-life kelp forest.

The event, much like SBMA’s longstanding Nights series, aims to provide a fun, laidback environment for both museum regulars and newcomers to enjoy the exhibit and connect with community members. “The main concept behind [Wildling After Dark] is to connect people,” explained the museum’s director of communications Holly Cline. “We have an element that encourages people to mix and mingle; we have an element that is a collaborative art project; we have an installation piece that people can discover and interact with. : We try to make the entertainment a shared group experience. One of the strengths of a smaller museum is the ability to provide a more intimate experience for guests-we don’t want anyone to get lost in the crowd!”

Last month, the attendees topped out at about 60 people, and July’s event is only expected to grow thanks to a heavy dose of glowing word-of-mouth publicity. To keep the party rolling this time around, the Wildling is also bringing in some serious entertainment. The evening starts off with live music from Los Olivos’ own Gary Foshee Band, followed by a live show from Santa Barbara’s acclaimed fire-spinning performance troupe PyroSpin. Tickets are only $15 for nonmembers on presale. For more info and tickets, call 688-1082 or visit wildlingmuseum.org.
