Twelfth Night at Center Stage
William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night performed by UCSB Drama MFA Students at Center Stage Theater This Weekend
This production of Twelfth Night came out of a class taught by UCSB professor of theater Irwin Appel over the summer and includes many of the top students in the university’s elite MFA program. Appel calls his approach, which involves multiple actors playing single roles, women playing men’s roles, and just a touch of male nudity, “Naked Shakes.” When it premiered at UCSB over the Labor Day weekend, Amanda Berning was outstanding as Feste, the fool.
