Despite the school being closed for President’s Day, the esteemed Dos Pueblos High School Engineering Academy celebrated a generous gift on Monday thanks to the folks from Raytheon. The Goleta-based defense technology company donated $175,000 to the academy in a special ceremony this week on the otherwise closed campus.

The Orfalea Fund, continuing its dedication to emergency preparedness in Santa Barbara County, donated $140,408 for the purchase and installation of a new mountaintop repeater radio system. The system will improve the effectiveness of the fire department’s radio system as well as the capability to dedicate one command frequency for a single large-scale incident without disrupting normal emergency communications.
