Zoo visitors on 4/15 got their first glimpse of two new additions to the African Veldt exhibit: a pair of female Masai giraffes. Betty Lou and Audrey, ages two-and-a-half and two years old, respectively, arrived at the zoo last month and have been acclimating to their new environment, officials said. The zoo is reportedly transitioning from exhibiting Baringo giraffes to Masai giraffes, and the move is part of a regional giraffe management plan that will allow zoos to increase genetic diversity among the species. A young male Masai giraffe will join the females this summer, and they’re expected to breed once they reach maturity.
