Arson is the cause of an early April fire that damaged a house in Mission Canyon, according to investigators from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Based on evidence from the remains of the house at 795 Mission Oaks Lane, investigators have opened up a criminal case and are interviewing potential witnesses, County Fire Department Information Officer David Sadecki said in a press release.

Sadecki declined to comment further since the investigation is ongoing.

Three engines and a ladder truck responded to the fire on April 12, which burned through the roof of the unoccupied home.

Though no injuries were reported, the home was heavily damaged both by the fire and the firefighters, who used chainsaws to saw open the roof and allow the fire to ventilate.

Investigators are asking the public to contact them with any information about the fire at (805) 686-5074.
