This Wednesday marked the one-year anniversary of the Jesusita Fire which, after sparking near a water treatment plants on San Roque Road, went on to destroy 79 homes and scorch nearly 9,000 acres of Santa Barbara countryside. In anticipation of this year’s dry season, county and city fire departments teamed up on 5/3 for helicopter-assisted wildland fire training. According to city Battalion Chief Pat McElroy, helicopters flew from Elings Park and made four or five drops in Hondo Canyon near Miramonte Drive. Residents can expect drills in the same locations on 5/6 and 5/7.
