Murder-for-Hire Thwarted
Detectives Arrest Santa Maria Man for Plot to Kill Estranged Wife's Boyfriend
A Santa Maria man —34-year-old Alfonso Garcia Medina — was arrested Tuesday, June 8, for allegedly trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife’s boyfriend.

According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars, a detective posed as a hit man and met with Medina. They discussed a plan of attack and even negotiated a price for the murder. Medina also allegedly showed the detective a photograph of the man he wanted killed along with photos of the man’s home and vehicles.
Detectives arrested Medina on a charge of solicitation to commit murder and booked him into Santa Barbara County Jail. His bail is set at $1 million.
