Los Padres National Forest officials announced today that road work will temporarily close portions of Figueroa Mountain and Sunset Valley Roads from June 30 and July 12. The repaving projects will affect access to both the Davy Brown and Nira campgrounds, said officials, and more than 25 miles of road will be improved over the course of the two weeks

“These roads are popular with our visitors because they provide access to some of the more scenic vistas in the forest,” said Ranger Kathleen Phelps. “The public will notice a big difference when this work has been completed.”

The portion of Figueroa Mountain Road beginning two miles east of Figueroa Station and extending west to the Forest boundary will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. from June 30 through July 2.

The portion of Figueroa Mountain Road beginning two miles east of Figueroa Station and running east to Cachuma Saddle will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 6-9.

The final stretch of road work in this area will be on Sunset Valley Road from Cachuma Saddle to the Nira Campground.

Visitors are encouraged to contact the Santa Lucia Ranger District at (805) 925-9538 for more detailed information and for the latest conditions.
