Bomb Threat at Public Health Department
Calle Real Campus Evacuated as Deputies Search Area
Santa Barbara Sheriff’s deputies are currently responding to a bomb threat at 345 Camino del Remedio, the Calle Real campus for the county’s Public Health Department and Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services.
According Sheriff’s department spokesperson Drew Sugars, authorities received a call just before 1:00 p.m. from an anonymous person claiming to have knowledge of an explosive placed somewhere on the property.
Responding deputies immediately set up a perimeter, Sugars said, and evacuations have been carried out at the Public Health Center at 345 Camino del Remedio and the county building next door at 315 Camino del Remedio which houses several offices for County Mental Health, County Public Health, and WIC (Women Infant & Children).
At the moment, Camino del Remedio is closed to traffic from Calle Real to 400 yards to the north.
A press release just issued by the Public Health officials said the campus will be closed for the rest of the day and people with appointments should call and reschedule.
[UPDATE, 5:20 p.m.]: At 4:45 p.m., Sugars reported, deputies called of their search of the Call Real campus, saying there were no bombs or suspicious activity discovered.
