UCSB, it was announced this week, is ranked number 9 in U.S. News & World Report’s annual listing of the country’s top 50 public universities and number 39 (tied with UC Davis) on the list of top universities overall, moving up two places and three places in the respective categories. It’s the highest ever UCSB has been placed. The categories include only schools that emphasize faculty research and offer a range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s degree and Ph.D. programs.

This year, the magazine reported that around 90 percent of the 1,472 colleges it surveyed responded to its request for the statistics it uses to formulate standings. See the complete list at USNews.com.
