After hitting and killing a 68-year-old motorcyclist on Highway 101 in Oxnard, Oregon resident Patrick Magann led authorities on a high-speed chase that ended in an accident near the El Capitán State Beach exit on 3/19. Magann, 23, tried stealing a car from a nearby construction site after the initial collision, but was thwarted by several workers.

He took off in his pickup truck with CHP officers in pursuit and was observed pointing a gun at his head and officers as he sped down the highway, eventually throwing the weapon out his truck’s window. Magann was able to dodge two sets of spike strips, but lost control and collided with a parked CHP cruiser as he tried to avoid a third. After a short foot pursuit, Magann was tazered, arrested, and charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, assault upon a peace officer, felony evading, felony DUI, and attempted vehicle theft.
