Graffiti Artist Makes Canvas out of Forever 21 Store
Guerilla Work Laden with Social Commentary Goes Unnoticed
Slapped high above the sidewalk on the Chapala Street side of downtown’s Forever 21 clothing store is the recent work of an unknown Santa Barbara graffiti artist.
The discreet mural was likely, and quickly, made sometime last weekend, though city police and Forever 21 employees discovered it only yesterday afternoon.
The facade appears best accessible from a trellis abutting the Chapala Street parking garage and features Freddy Kruger’s hand slitting a gash in the side of the two-story building. From the tear spills blood and cash, with “Nightmare on State Street” written above. Below it are the descending words, “Sacred Brain; Sacred Brain; Sacred Brain”.
A Forever 21 manager, who contacted the State Street location’s corporate office, said the mural will be removed within the next couple of days.
