Homeless Man Found Dead in Mission Creek
No Foul Play Suspected; Identity Not Yet Released
[UPDATE, 2:16 p.m.]: The decedent has been identified as Malcolm Roy Yount.
[ORIGINAL REPORT]:A 67-year-old homeless man was found dead in Mission Creek yesterday afternoon. According to Santa Barbara Police Department spokesperson Sergeant Mike McGrew, officers received a call of a body floating in the water near Skater’s Point on East Beach.
When officers arrived, Harbor Patrol and park ranger personnel were already on-site. Paramedics tried to revive the man — who was pulled from the water covered in moss — to no avail. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected.
McGrew said the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. He reportedly lived in bushes around the area, and his shopping cart was found near where he died.
