Another Pelican Found with Unnatural Injuries
Wildlife Care Network Offering $1,500 Award for Information That Leads to Arrest
Another pelican has been found with brutal injuries that appear to have been inflicted by a person. Julia Parker with Wildlife Care Network said beachgoers on Tuesday found a dead California brown pelican in Oxnard with both of its wings broken and its beak cut off.
Between January 10 and 19 , five pelicans were found in Santa Barbara with suspiciously broken wings. All were euthanized.
Wildlife Care Network volunteers have pooled together money and are offering a $1,500 award for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible. California brown pelicans are federally protected, and anyone found guilty of intentionally harming one is subject to a maximum fine of $200,000 and one year in prison.
Parker asks anyone with information on the incidents to call U.S. Fish and Wildlife at (310) 328-1516.
