The Santa Barbra Sheriff’s Department says there have been two recent home burglaries in Goleta around Scripps Crescent Street, and that residents should be on the lookout for a suspicious individual. Between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6, two residential burglaries were reported. According to a press release, the thief allegedly stole pain medication, money, and a checkbook from one of the homes.

According to authorities, witnesses have said that the suspect has been going door to door in the neighborhood selling magazine subscriptions or something similar. When no one answers the door, these witnesses say, the suspect goes into the backyard and searches for an open window or unlocked door. Last Thursday, February 2, a similar person was spotted in the neighborhood. When confronted by a neighbor, he allegedly claimed that he was the grandson of a resident before going into a sales pitch to “raise money for a trip to Italy.”

The suspect is said to be 5’4” to 5’6” with light brown or blond hair, in his late teens or early 20s, and with identical tattoos of a blue sun on the insides of his elbows. He also has reportedly been intoxicated.

A Sheriff’s spokesperson asks that anyone with information on the incidents or the individual to please contact (805) 683-2724 and ask for a deputy, or call the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171.
