Sports Update: May 2-10
Rather than being worn down, SBCC’s baseball team was energized by a marathon, 16-inning game Tuesday. The Vaqueros defeated Canyons 6-5 when Mark Jebbia’s single through the left side scored Zach Zehner from second base, ending the Southern California Regional playoff game after almost five hours at Pershing Park. The victory sends SBCC into a best-of-three series against Rio Hondo in Whittier on Saturday.
Westmont College also was successful in its baseball postseason opener, as the sixth-seeded Warriors upset top-seeded Azusa Pacific 12-5 in the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament. The Warriors assured themselves of at least two more games in the double-elimination tournament at Azusa.
