One of Old Spanish Days’ premier events, the Primavera Party, is the opening party of the Fiesta Season, and it will be a standout event in this new location nestled amongst the adobes on the corner of De La Guerra and Santa Barbara streets. Mark your calendars for Sunday May 20, 2012, starting with cocktails and mariachi music at 5:00 p.m. The 2012 Fiesta poster and pin will be unveiled at 6:00 p.m.

“The party is very special to me,” says 2012 El Presidente Ricardo Castellanos. “It is not only the kick off to the Fiesta Season, but it is one of the most traditional events that we have. This is more true than ever this year as we are essentially partnering up with the Historical Museum to go back in time, if you will. This year is especially bittersweet as we have lost a true gem in the community, and specifically the historical community, with the loss of David Bisol. He was not only a friend; he was very excited that Fiesta was once again going to have a function on the museum grounds.”

One of the special moments at this event is the unveiling of the annual Fiesta Poster and Pin. The Presidente/Presidenta has the privilege of designing his/her poster and pin. When asked about his 2012 pin and poster, Castellanos said, “I enjoyed the process of the pin and poster. I dug deep into tradition once again, and with the help of the Historical Museum staff, gathered historical information. The pin and poster are not new this year, per se, but are more about bringing things back.” Both will be revealed at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets are $85 in advance and can be purchased at the Old Spanish Days Office at 129 Castillo Street, or call 805.962.8101 to reserve and pay in advance. Tickets will be $100 at the door. No discount tickets are available.

Catering Connection will provide an elegant traditional Mexican menu, and the drink of the evening will be specialty margaritas featuring Tres Agaves Tequila.

Following dinner, the band MissBehavin will come onstage, and provide dance music. Fiesta or western costume is suggested. “Please join us in celebration of Primavera and Fiesta,” says Presidente Castellanos.

Other pre-fiesta events include Fiesta Ranchera at Rancho la Patera’s Stow House June 21, 2012; the Flower Girls Garden party July 28th in the Sunken Gardens of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, and El Recepción del Presidente Sunday July 29th at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort. Fiesta Week has its formal opening Wednesday August 1, 2012 at Fiesta Pequeña on the steps of the Old Mission.
