Santa Barbara Sheriff’s detectives have released surveillance images of an armed robbery that took place at an Isla Vista ATM on Saturday, May 19. The suspect has not been identified, and authorities ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., said Sheriff’s spokesperson Drew Sugars, a 22-year-old woman was using an ATM in the 900 block of Embarcadero Del Norte when a male subject walked up from behind, held an object to her hip, and ordered her to give him her money.

The victim originally thought the man was joking until he showed her a knife and again told her to give him the cash, said Sugars. She complied and the suspect walked northbound on Madrid Road toward UCSB. “The entire encounter lasted approximately two minutes in broad daylight near dozens of people on the surrounding street,” said Sugars. The woman was not injured.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20- to 22-years-old, approximately 6-feet-tall, average build, with medium length curly hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black baseball hat, a gray and white striped pullover shirt, and shorts.

Anyone with information that may be helpful to the investigation is asked to contact Sheriff’s detectives at (805)-681-4150 or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171.
