Santa Barbara Man Arrested for Helping Fugitive in Guatemala
Luis Urbina Allegedly Sent Jeffrey Parish Money via Western Union
FBI agents and members of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office Felony Fugitive unit arrested Luis Urbina this Tuesday for allegedly aiding and concealing fugitive Jeffrey Parish.
Parish, arrested in Santa Barbara in 1994 for molesting a 4-year-old girl, was apprehended earlier this month in Guatemala, where he spent the last 18 years after skipping bail. Urbina resides in Santa Barbara but is originally from Guatemala and still has family there, said a Sheriff’s spokesperson.
From 2005 to 2011, Urbina sent 65-year-old Parish large amounts of money via Western Union transfers, the spokesperson said, explaining Urbina also facilitated email communications between Parish and his mother. Urbina is the 90-year-old woman’s primary caretaker.
Urbina was booked into County Jail and his bail is set at $20,000.
