A 47-year-old hiker died on the Jesusita Trail Monday morning approximately 2.5 miles up from the trailhead. The man’s name and the cause of death have not been released.

According to County Fire spokesperson Mike Elliason, land and air rescue crews were dispatched at 11:02 a.m. First to arrive on the scene, a helicopter unit was flagged down by nearby hikers and landed. Onboard medical personnel — assisted by a doctor and nurse hiking in the area — administered CPR for over an hour, but the man was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities have so far declined to provide any more details on the incident.
