Demonstrators Demand Williams Vote for Trust Act

Rallies were held on Friday and Saturday outside Assemblymember Das Williams’s district office, encouraging Williams to vote for the Trust Act, a bill that would override the Secure Communities deportation program and offer more protection to illegal immigrants. Those leading the rallies are worried Williams won’t vote in support of the bill because he abstained during a vote on a similar 2011 bill. In response to the rallies, Williams released a statement saying he has always been a strong supporter of immigrants’ rights (noting his support of the DREAM Act) and is in the midst of reviewing the legislation.
