Lauren Gurley
SUMMER SCRIBE: Lauren Gurley, Santa Barbara born and bred, has been interning in the news department since mid June. A graduate of Cate and Crane schools, she is on her summer break from the University of Chicago. (She lives on the Southside; she loves it. After 18 years in temperate S.B., she’s enjoying the windy city’s blustery cold, too.) Writing fiction is her main focus — favorite authors are Eudora Welty and Joan Didion — but until she hits the best-seller lists, Gurley intends to pursue a career in journalism. Her stepfather’s father, to whom she was very close, was the late Tom Kleveland, a reporter and columnist for the Santa Barbara News-Press.
