Two UCSB Buildings Recently Burglarized
Small Amounts of Cash and Valuables Stolen
Burglars have struck two buildings on the UCSB campus in the past five days, stealing small amounts of cash and valuables from the Career Services and Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) buildings.
The two incidents occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, August 10 and Tuesday, August 14, respectively. UC Police Department Detective Dan Wilson said campus police currently have no suspects, although he believes the two incidents are related.
The suspect or suspects entered the ICA building through an open window and the Career Services building through an unlocked sliding door. Wilson said “dozens of rooms” were broken into in the ICA and that “smaller cash-type items” were taken. The UCPD is working with the university and individual victims to inventory the items stolen.
Wilson said anyone with information pertaining to the two cases should contact UCPD Dispatch at (805) 893-3446. Wilson said many of the residential and commercial burglaries in the area are “crimes of opportunity,” and encouraged residents and campus staff to make sure all points of entry are secure before leaving a building.
