Parkour is defined as a physical discipline and non-competitive activity, which focuses on efficient movement around obstacles. Practitioners learn to refine one’s body movement as they interact and move through the environment. CrossFit Pacific Coast member and long time Parkour instructor James Ballantyne will be leading the class. The Parkour class will introduce the basic movements of Parkour, teach fluid motion, and ultimately build confidence. Each class will consist of a dynamic warm-up, a technical section working on one or more areas of Parkour, and a short cool-down. The technical section of the workout will include learning the various vaults/movements, learning to jump and land efficiently, improving balance, overcoming fear, and increasing confidence. All exercises will be scaled based on the confidence and skill level of each CrossFitter.

Parkour and CrossFit both follow a similar principle of striving to be efficient and strong in all aspect of life, not just specializing in a single area, making this a cohesive fit. Parkour provides an opportunity to take fitness one-step further by learning efficient and fluid motion. CrossFit Pacific Coast co-owner and program director Eric Malzone said “There is a lot of symmetry between what we do at CrossFit to get our bodies in the best shape possible, and the movements that James teaches in his Parkour class, and most importantly, it’s a lot of fun.” Foundation classes will be offered every Wednesday at 11am beginning on August 22nd and is open to the public.
